Easton,
Maryland – At the 7th Annual Spring Luncheon of the
Women’s and Girls Fund, Hillary Spence, Board Member,
presented a grant to Lorri Wilson-Clarke, owner of BodyWatts
and Bonnie Brown, manager of BodyWatts. The grant will
assist with the funding of a pilot program, Girls Reaching
for Real Life, or “GRRL’s. The program is free to
participants and is designed for teenage girls at risk for
obesity. Participants will meet two hours daily,
Monday-Friday, for six weeks beginning in June. One hour
daily will be devoted to group exercise and the second hour
to education and support. The goal is to educate, motivate,
and encourage the young women to develop a healthy
lifestyle. Along with personal training, a life coach and a
dietitian will be involved to help with self esteem and
nutrition. A nurse practitioner will monitor the health and
wellness of the group.
“With obesity increasing at an alarming
rate, BodyWatts wants to help young women develop healthy habits so that
as they mature and have children of their own, they can pass along their
knowledge of a healthy lifestyle” says owner, Lorri Wilson-Clarke.
Clarke continues “The GRRL’s program was conceived by manager, Bonnie
Brown, whose passion is teaching fitness and wellness”. Brown says, “It
is so encouraging to see the transformation of our young members and
with this grant we are able to reach out to the community of teen girls
who may not have the resources to join a facility such as ours”.
BodyWatts is accepting donations from local businesses or individuals
for gift cards to be given as weekly rewards for attendance. For GRRL’S
