| These guidelines are to help enhance
your Yoga and Pilates practice at BodyWatts.
Prior to your practice
Give yourself a pause - arrive 10-15
minutes early so you don't have to rush. You can relax in our lounge and
have some tea.
Please help yourself to any tea or
treats in the lounge but don’t bring anything other than water into
studio unless you have a medical condition.
Private clients are encouraged to enter
the sitting area of the Mind Body Studio and warm- up or sit quietly so
that your teacher knows you are ready for your lesson. A teacher’s time
spent searching the fitness or lounge area for you will take away from
your lesson time.
If you are late, we ask that you do not
enter a yoga class until the initial "centering" is over, or leave the
room during final relaxation. No Pilates or Yoga students will be
admitted 15 minutes after a class begins. This insures all students
experience an appropriate warm up and minimizes class disruptions.
Always let your teacher know if you have
any injuries or special health conditions. Please do not come to class
if you have any contagious condition.
Please remove your shoes upon entering
the Mind Body Studio as a way of respecting the ancient tradition of the
East and to provide a clean environment in which to practice.
Remove socks for safety as well as enhancing your personal practice.
Yoga or Pilates specialty footwear is acceptable, however bare feet are
preferred.
Please keep the Mind Body Studio tidy
and safe by placing all personal belongings (purses etc) on the shelves
provided outside the class rooms or in the locker room, not near your
mats.
Have a light snack but wait for 1 to 2
hours before your practice after having a meal. You will enjoy your
practice much more!
Please do not wear perfume or heavy
scents. It can be a health hazard to some and prevents others from
experiencing deep breaths.
Wear comfortable clothes; leggings or
snug fitting clothing will help your teacher guide alignment in poses.
Invest in your own mat. We have mats for
rent in the studio but it is not as hygienic or as meaningful as
practicing on your own mat.
Bring a towel because perspiration makes
for slippery mats. BodyWatts rents mats and towels for $1 each. Our
blankets are not made for this purpose. There is always non toxic mat
cleaner on the studio shelves. Please help yourself!
Our fountain offers filtered water. We
encourage use of polycarbonate bottles instead of paper and plastic
whenever possible as an effort to reduce waste.
During Practice
Please be considerate of students in
class by keeping your voice down when a class is in session. Refrain
from talking during class as this may be dangerous to your body as well
as distracting to teachers and students.
Please try not to step on other
student’s mats.
Listen to your body, pushing yourself
beyond comfort and pain is not part of any Yoga or Pilates practice.
Remember, Yoga and Pilates are not competitive – each is a practice.
It is ok to sweat during practice. It assists the purification process
through movement and heat. Bring a towel to absorb sweat--our blankets
are not to be used for the purpose!
Find comfort and ease and stability in
your practice. Struggling and straining are not part of the practice. It
is always ok to pause, take child’s pose or a rest pose - at any level
if that is what your body is calling for.
Pilates Reformers should be wiped down
prior to converting the equipment to mat or visa versa as well as wiping
down after your lesson. There is always non toxic mat cleaner on the
studio shelves. During and after your lesson please replace straps and
short boxes in the classical Pilates equipment setup.
Help us keep the studio well organized.
If you use props, please, take the time to replace them in their
"proper" space.
Namasté In Yoga, Namasté is said to mean
“I am your humble servant”. Taken literally it means “I bow to you.” The
word is derived from Sanskrit (namas): to bow, obeisance, reverential
salutation, and (te): “to you”. When your teacher says Namasté to you it
is a courtesy to reply Namasté.
